Harald Kliems has worked in the Department of Pediatrics at UW-Madison at the interface of health research and research management and administration. His graduate training lies in mixed methods research in psychology and science and technology studies, and in his career as a researcher he has contributed to numerous health research projects, such as developing a patient-centered measure of barriers to type 1 diabetes measurement and the validation of a measure of family-relationships as part of a large multi-center NIH-funded consortium. In these projects, Harald contributed to the development of grant applications, research design, obtaining IRB approval, project management, data analysis, and writing reports for funders and peer-reviewed publications. As such, Harald has worked on studies throughout their entire lifecycle, from developing grant applications to conducting research and disseminating results. Harald has a certificate in project management from the UW-Madison Continuing Studies program. Starting in 2021, Harald joined the UWPRC as the Interim Deputy Director, working with UWPRC Director Dr. Jill Denson since 2022, and in 2023 he became the UWPRC’s Deputy Director on a full-time basis. As Deputy Director, Harald manages and optimizes day-to-day operations, data collection for evaluation and reporting, managing the UWPRC’s successful small grant program, supervising UWPRC staff, as well as effort and budget planning and developing the portfolio of the UWPRC through additional grant applications.
